there's always the first for everything

Well, the other day the inevitable happened. Every teachers worst nightmare. I was getting ready to dismiss the kids at the end of the day. I could hear this little boy in my class quietly to my side. No sooner had he said "Ms. Getz" and I turned to look and..... BLAHHHHH!!! He pukes no farther than a foot away from me!!! It was surreal. All of the sudden I was the adult in the situation and was trying to redirect kids- one to accompany this poor kid to the bathroom, and one to get the janitor ASAP. As this sorry little soul made his way, very slowly I might add, to the bathroom , he managed to orally relieve himself a few more times. The kids were yelling "EEWWW GROSS!!" and I couldn't blame them. The whole situation was wrong. Very, very wrong. Needless to say the little gaffer wasn't at school today.

Positive note - I did have 6 kids away! Totally diiferent classroom! 32-6 = only 26 students!!

Birthday Boy...! Dale turned 34 yesterday! We went for a nice dinner at Siam Orchid, our favourite thai restuarant. The food was delicious and the company was awesome. We were lucky to be joined by Dale's parents, my mom and Jenn. It was a nice evening and no food or wine was put to waste!

I even managed to embarass the birthday boy a bit. Dale never tells anyone it's his birthday so I made a point of dropping off some balloons and a cake/candles at the restaurant with Ronni ( perhaps you know you go to a restaurant too much if your on a first name basis with the owner!)

He brought it out after we had managed to stuff our faces pretty good on the main course.. but we always find room for dessert! He turned out the lights and we sang Happy

Birthday.

I have to admit that Dale's 'blow out the candles' candid is a fake. I forgot that I brought my camera so we had to redo it. Pretty good acting eh?


Anyways it was a nice evening and I wish Dale , my sweetie, a very happy birthday!

Ginger's Flying High

On Monday, Ginger got some surgery done. It was a real reality check, being a mom, dropping of my baby for the day. It was really hard and I can't imagine having to do it with a child. She got spayed, they pulled out a tooth (she had two fangs on one side casue the baby one wasn't falling out!), and gave her a rabies shot and her last puppy vaccines.

We went to pick her up at the end of the day...and it was quite hilarious. Not the fact that she was obviously in pain and probably pissed of at us for putting her through all of this, but the anethesia made her totally stoned! Her eyes were all squinty and she was definately doing the head bob to stay awake. Too cute! I tried to snap some pics, but it hardly justifies the event!

She was totally out of it the whole night and sleepy. This is quite unusual for her as she is a pretty active dog (puppy and chihuaha mix!)
However, the next moring, after alittle bit of a sleep in, she was up and at 'em like any other day. Blows me away!

She has been pretty good the last day or so, but we have to keep reminding her to take 'er easy! She wants to run and play, not realizing that she just had major surgery. She has a little line of stitches up her belly and some bruising to show for it all.
All in all I think in a couple of more days she will be right back into getting into things and being her normal puppy self!

Yet another reason to celebrate on St.Pattys day

Well, the night got even nmore exciting at our place Friday night when Freya (a best friend of mine for over 10 years) and Jason walked in... and announced they had gotten engaged earlier that evening! YAY!

Needless to say there was a lot of congrats as we are all so happy for the two of them. Quite honestly, I can't think of two people better suited to one another and I know that they will be happy in their lives together...waking up next to each other day in and day out for the rest of their lives....right Freya??!! :)

On another happy note... Cluny and I (The three of us have been best friends for a long time!) are going to be her co-maid of honours!!! We are so excited and already planning a multitude of things. Congrats again freya and thanks for including me in such a special day!

the outside reno's begin....

many new things will be happening to our house this spring and summer. the outside is going to be majorly changed. here is a list of things we are hoping to get accomplished:

*New deck (extended and adding a pergola- wooden deck roof structure- pic below)

*Adding grass and plants, bark mulch, and shrubbery (love the word shrubbery)- basically landscaping the front and backyard!

• * New exterior paint and trim (thinking a lively green like inside avocado green for the paint, trim?? can't agree! Suggestions?)

*New front walk and stone path around the house

*New windows

*A garden!! My favourite part- However I do need some suggestions (Liz!) for what to plant. So far I have the followingideas : leeks, green onions, onions, jalepeno's, carrots, yams?, lettuce?, tomatoes, strawberries, basil, dill, mint, cilantro....any other ideas??

and it begins...

As many of you might already know, Dale and I are doing some renos and upgrading to our house this spring and summer. Because I am on Spring Break, and Dale is taking next week off too, we have started several items on our "to do" list. An important one, and exciting, is a kitchen table! If you have ever been to our cute, humble home, you will know remmeber that it is a very small little war house downtown kelowna. We have never had room or the want-to to have a table, but finally we decided its time! We wanted to make our place more of a home, where we could comfrtably invite family and friends over for dinners and get togethers without having to sit around the island, or wait till summer and use the patio.

So in our hunts around town, we found the pefrect table and chairs candidates! Our house is very natural, with a lot of wood and old, antique type things, so we wanted to keep that same theme. All the stores wanted a ton of money for these little tables (we need a small one) and we were blown away. We came across this little old table, and fell in love with it. It matches our house perfectly and it was a quarter of the price of any other table we looked at! Yay!

So, needless to say, last night was really exciting because we had a wonderful meal and some wine...sitting at our new kitchen table!

Ginger the adolescent

Well our little baby is going in for some nip and tuck. Ginger is getting spayed while I am on my Spring Break so I can be with her. Poor little thing has no idea whats coming..she runs around the house all happy...poor thing...its like shes going to get blindsided by a big semi...

Fairmont Vacation

Well, well, well. Where to even start. Dale and I, as well as our good friends, Katie (J-Naz) and Corey went away to Fairmont Hot Springs this past weekend. I was able to take two days off work -using my two discretionary days-no pay :(

We left Friday and had a nice long, eventful drive to Fairmont. It took us about 7 hours with all the stopping and such. When we arrived we were amazed with the beautiful condo we got to stay in. Dale and I even got to sleep in a King Size Bed- I couldn't even find him during the night all weekend!!

Saturday the guys went sledding (the cool term for snowmobiling) and Katie and I went to a really nice ski hill outside of Invermere called Panorama. It was absolutely gorgeous (will include some pics) and we had clear blue skies all day. I had a few good wipe outs- stupid black diamonds- but all in all I couldn't move the next couple of days. Because we all went in one vehicle, we were dropped off by 8am and picked up by the boys at 6:30. Basically we had no choice but to ski a full day. The runs were amazing -a full run down the mountain was about three times as long as Big White. It actually took you three chairs to get to the very top of the mountain!

It was spectacular and the next day we lounged, and went to the hotsprings! Its so cool! We ate lots of good meals, drank and played lots of cards!

We drove back Monday- we decided to go the 'long way' for the scenery!!!!!!! 10 hours later...grrrrr...

But we are back now, safe and sound. It will be a short week too because this Friday is the last day before spring break. Yay! I'll keep you posted with my endeavours!
