wear pink to promote an anti bullying atmosphere

today was official wear pink to say no to bullying day. some of you may be saying oh yah there is so much hype about this, others may be thinking i thought i heard something about this, and many of you may be out of the loop. i'll fill you in.

so to re-iterate, you should have worn pink as a sign of zero bullying tolerance. it seemd like such a small thing i saw on facebook a few days, another one of those 'join this group' requests. lame. but as they day approached, the district got ahold of the idea, it was even on the news this morning! so i asked my students to wear pink today.

well this morning rolls around... i'm getting ready and i hear dale shouting at me from the living room as I get ready... "are you wearing pink today honey?" as I am thinking ' if i could find anthying god damn flattering and pink to wear....and i'm going to be late... then he calls out... ' is your school doing anything to promote this?" again in my grumpy morning voice i am thinking since when do you ask me what i am going to be doing at school in the morning... and if you keep asking me questions i am really going to be late...

but then i realize this is all such a good thing! what an important topic that seems to have hit the fan ! Instead of the latest greatest celeb or trend, we are all talking about the most influenical behaviour out here in schools- bullying!

and sure enough- the majority of kids in my class wore pink. girls- who stated they ' had no problem mrs.L, all we had to was open our closet" ( as my morning voice realizes that my sweater doesn't look all that bad i must admit). even boys particpated. how cool. not afraid to wear pink and be bullyed instead- standing up to bullies. how powerful. boys proud that they were wearing their grandmas shirt, their mom's scarf for belt, their sisters hoodie. I even had one by cut out a pink mask and wear a pink cowboy as AntiBully Superhero!

we happened to have an assembly today, and a sea of pink kids swarmed the gym. again- too cool! what a message...

we had some good discussions about bullying, and before you know it, my little group ofintellectuals and highly renewed self esteemed little ones were out the door.

braggerson
and just announce... that i have the cutest niece and nephew in all the world!

i thoroughly enjoyed my latest visit with the gang, got to squeeze in some cuddle time, and some 'socializing' time with Parker. yes, gabby auntie heather taught him how to talk about pretty much nothing. we discussed our favourite food, colours, even flowers. did you know his is the rose... and when asked why... because it has 'spikes'... typical 7 year old boy...

Awesome Allsport-ness

We are absolutely LOVING our Allsport league. The first week was indoor soccer, then a week of gladiator dodgeball, and last week was a double header of european handball. It feels like I am back in Gym class. We have way too much fun though....
Dale and Jeff- did you guys not know there is a 'special league' for fine young men like yourselves?!
Our team name.. say it outloud to yourself....
Yup- every player is #1!
Go ladies! We are all sporting knee highs and sweatbands! Playing it old school!
We have to request the last few sports to round out the season. Any ideas? Next week we play capture the flag, and we are signed up for bowling. What else??

Its been awhile. I fear I am falling into the lazy bloggin trap again. I lack motivation. I need news. I need juicy gossip. I need something exciting to happen that I can shout from the rooftops.

I know... Ginger shat on my bed!

Can you believe it!?? Not since we had only had her a few days, a couple of years back, and I am damn sure she learnt right away that was the wrong thing to do. SO what gives little brat?
