Yikes- I am about ready for an update!

I finally have a chance to sit down and think, type, relax! Don't get me wrong, the holidays have been very enjoyable, but it just felt like every minute of my time was booked into somewhere or something. I am home today, with some grocery shopping to do, a gift exchange with the girls from University, and then its CHILL time! Jess (from China) was my secret Santa, and part of her gift was a whole album of DVDs! YAY! So I am going to choose one tonight and veg!

So, yes I did make it through the last day of work. Surprisingly, they were very well behaved. They showered me with hugs and gifts- too cute! Lots of coffee, mugs, chocolate and things like that.
One little girl even played the piano for me at lunch as part of her present- she had practiced and rehearsed some christmas songs. Very dear.
Another little boy gave me a box of peanut brittle- he sooooo excited!
He says "Ms. Getz, it's brittle! It's brittle!"
And I was very aware of this.
"Do you remember?" he continues, "brittle, it was one of our spelling words!?" I almost squeezed him to death. That day when he left, I thanked him for the 'brittle'. He said, "Your welcome for the spelling word Ms. Getz". Too cute.

I have close to a million and one pictures from the holidays already ( yes, a silly exaggeration dale). I am going to try to keep ahead of the game- so a slideshow will be coming your way very soon!

I am embarking on a frightening journey...one where many go before, but few come out alive.. the last day of school. The final destinatin looks rewarding, but the road may be long and trechorous. Monsters , hyenas, aand sugar - anticipation filled children are everywhere you turn.
I had no choice but to make this journey, with optimism behind me, I believe I can make it through the 6 hour drama filled trip.
Please don't worry, I know I will end up okay. I may suffer emotionally and be physically exhausted for a few days afterwards, but the end, oh the sweet end to it all, has nothing but good things in store for me.

Wish me luck, and I will see you on the other side.

Family Surival Kit for the Holidays

This video reminds me of the holidays. Not neccesarily with my family at all, but just the concept in general. I think it was my mother that always said, "you can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family."

Update...

One week to go.Goodness knows I NEED a break. Between writing reports, battling a sickness for at least 3 weeks now, and last night the Christmas Concert...I am POOPED! I could hardly wake up this morning. Dale says, "Honey- you look exhausted!" I could hardly open my eyes. I took the kids on a field trip this afternoon too- Gymnastics center and then the Boys and Girls Club right beside for some fun games. GEEZ- I sure wasn't thinking. They were quite well behaved, but I just need a break. Except for the boy who couldn't find his boots, and knew he was supposed to carry his inside shoes onto the bus with him for the trip...but arrived on the bus only wearing his socks (after treching through the snow!) I asked him where his shoes where (you can only imagine my tone of voice) and he said he couldn't find them. SO then I proceeded to tell him that the next logical thing was to WEAR HIS OTHER SHOES THEN! AHHHHHHHHHH! Grade 5!!

Thank goodness its the weekend and there is only one more week of school till holidays!

Gone are the days of partying, working the next day on a few hours sleep.I feel old. Life simply gets a little less exciting...and the thougth of coming HOME to kids right now...YIKES! Not quite ready for that! I can't beleive I ever was able to exist on not much sleep. Sleep is now my best friend. Without sleep- Heather fades...withers...becomes depressed and grumpy. Its like sleep is your soulmate....without it you would be lost- unable to survive....

P.S. very disapointed that NOT ONE person came up with a 100 point word?! My class is now up to thirty something...

Bubba Hog

I think I have found some Wedding entertainment..what do you think??!
Funny What You Hear...

During an art activity today, I sat back and listened to the students talking amongst themselves. These are a few random things that I heard:

  • "My mom has hair under her armpits..."
  • "My sister is really smart, but she is in Grade 1 and she can't really talk..."
  • " Are you a Christian?"
  • "Everywhere you go in Drumheller, you see dinosuars...everywhere!"
  • "I am not actually a child, I am really a midget..."
  • "Hey, those are my working goggles..."
  • "My Grandma uses butter, but my Mom uses Olive Oil, she's a real chef..."

And what was said to me.. "Um... Ms. Getz... ____ just puked on his desk..." and "Ms. Getz... _____ just said the 'f' word..."

What a day! Friday!

Every winter Dale cheats on me with another woman...

... mrs. arctic cat. It seems that way anyway. He isn't home alot, our bank account depletes, and alot of time is spent out in the garage. In fact this morning, I stayed home to give myself one final chance to kick my cold, and he goes in the garage all morning...making his poor other woman feel better after she got sick and hurt yesterday in the snow.... hmm... something's not right.

This is jsut me venting.. I could understand if he cheats on me every once and awhile..but come on Dale, EVERY winter, I am starting to catch on! Whats a girl to do.

I decided that two can play this game. I ahve started a new relationship too. His name is Mr. Orchard Park.
Worm Demonstration

A minister decided that a visual demonstration
would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.

Four worms were placed into four separate jars.

****

The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.
The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.
The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup.
The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil.

At the conclusion of the sermon,
the Minister reported the following results:

The first worm in alcohol -
Dead.

The second worm in cigarette smoke -
Dead .

Third worm in chocolate syrup -
Dead .

Fourth worm in good clean soil -
Alive.

So the Minister asked the congregation -

What can you learn from this demonstration?

Heatherwas sitting in the back,
quickly raised her hand and said,

"As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate,
you won't have worms!"

House Hunting....HELLO KITCHEN!

As we peruse the market, it still kills me to think we may have to demolish our old funky little home. But then, we came across this one, thanks to my big sis. It is built the same year as ours but its one of those cute 2 storey character houses. I have fallen in love with it. Just look at the kitchen... it has my crazy name all over it! dale thinks I am crazy if he thinks we can afford it, so I have a lot of persuading to do....

My Apologies

I think I set a bad precedent during the summer. I blogged too much. Now I feel guilty every time I come onto the computer at home, wanting to Blog. Instead I have a million other things to do, one being of course to check everyone else's blog. hehe.

As soon as reports are over, it should be back to somewhat normal folks.

PMS SURVIVAL TIPS
To Move or not to Move... that is the question...

So, the saga continues. Dale and our neighbour met with the developers. We are now in the process of some negotiations. Good news, bad news. The money is good, and we can take our house with us. The only downfall we forsee right now is finding some land for a decent price where we can plunk down our house and expand/reno it. There is so much to consider and debate, all so suddenly. Suddenly as in we found all this out Friday, and we have to re-meet with the developers this week. So we will do some counteroffers and all that jazz. Basically we have to find some lawyers and real estate agents pronto, as our life may be dramatically changing. This development would happen next summer... and last time I checked we have a wedding next summer...sooo.. we will have to be moving in the spring...which is a few months away! AHHHHH!! So much, in so little time.

Know anyone with land they want to sell? :)

P.S. to all you teachers out there...ummm I have report cards and christmas concert on my plate right now...can anyone say overload!??

GONZO ALONZO

it frustrates me that i waste my time talking about this, but it really does play a huge role in my life right now. i have dixie chick girls trip pics to upload still...but this seems to be right in the moment...

i got home today to chaos! i guess the house was evicted, becuase today the whole of our back alley was closed down and there was SWAT and police vehicles lining the streets. I guess they did a full on practice 'taking down a drug house' today! i missed the most of it (neighbours told me it was full on shooting down doors, throwing little bombs into the house to burst out the windows...CRAZY! there were police dogs and SWAT members galore! i felt like i was in a movie...totally unreal! i guess the gas and everything was shut down today and ..... drum roll please....... they are being demolished tomorrow!

we are so excited....so excited...i can't even pu it into words. we are taking some pics tomorrow morning for the 'befores' and then we can get 'afters'. i will definately be posting...stay tuned amigos...

wea slo learned there is a new proposal- which is still top secret, for a 4 storey, 27 unit apartment building..interesting...we are meeting with the architect and developers to perhaps get in on some deal to buy up our land (then move our house). we'll see.... it just seems that some pretty big housing changes may be coming into our life pretty soon....demanded change is scary.... yikes!

Apparently not...

This morning at 6am there was a guy in our backyard as I went to go let the dogs out. No we don't sell crack - wrong house. I screamed so loud when I saw him, the neighbours came outside. We called the cops because the lunatic then went into the nearby-favourite-house-on-the-street. The cops came and did a drive-by but can't do much more. Dale told them it was an atempted intrusion.... pretty sure we have a totally secure and fenced yard...

It boils down to the fact that I HATE my neighbours and their business they run out of their house. Public Forum or not I am starting to get VERY angry!

:(

Whats a nice young family to do?

Friday, November 17, 2006

Halleluiah!
I have been told to be careful because this IS a public forum ... so crack heads take no offence or revenge...
It FINALLY appears as though my favourite neighbours may be leaving ...
I got home today and there was 1 police car, 1 big police van, 1 white suburban and 1 city X (hehe) vehicle out front of the "best looking houses on the block." Out back there was a big flat bed truck and 'they' were loading it up from the house...washers and dryers, dingy couches, lamps, etc. It appears as though they may be moving!
Apparently it was in the process of trying to be condemed, as well as a development proposal had gone through for the two lots.
Whateva the reason...I'm as happy as you know what...

Popeye is withering away...
Dale and I have been super busy these last couple of weeks, between reno's at the store, school, and both of us getting ready for going away this weekend. (I am going to the Dixie Chicks in Tacoma, Dale-0 his first snowmobile weekend of the season!). With that being said, we have been getting take out alot and stopping for quick meals here and there. We have tried ordering spinach salad, omlette or whatever several times, and there is still a spinach backlash. Oh, how I miss spinach!!!!!!!!!!!

Willie Nelson's public statement regarding being caught with a bag of marijuana last week: "It's a good thing I had a bag of marijuana instead of a bag of spinach. I'd be dead by now."

LOVE THE 80's! Dale and I a few years back at an 80's Party

I got this awesome email about growing up in the 80's the other day. I needed to sahre it..you see, Dale is 9 years older than me, so his 80's and my 80's are SOOO different. I think most of you will relate with these favs of mine:

You know you grew up in the 80's when:
.... You've ever ended a sentence with the word SIKE. ....... You watched the Pound Puppies... You can sing the rap to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and can do the Carlton .... Girls wore biker shorts under their skirts and felt stylishly sexy. .. You yearned to be a member of the Baby-sitters club and tried to start a club of your own. .. You owned those lil' Strawberry Shortcake pals scented dolls. .... You know that "WOAH" comes from Joey on Blossom .... Two words: Hammer Pants .... If you ever watched "Fraggle Rock" .... You wore a ponytail on the side of your head/had a banana clip. .. You saw the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the big screen..and still know the turtles names. ... You got super-excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school... You made your mom buy one of those clips that would hold your shirt in a knot on the side. ... You played the game "MASH"(Mansion, Apartment, Shelter, House) ... L.A. Gear....need I say more? .... You wanted to change your name to "JEM" in Kindergarten. ... You know the profound meaning of "WAX ON, WAX OFF" ... You wanted to be a Goonie. ... You ever wore fluorescent clothing. (some of us...head-to-toe) .... You remember Hypercolor t-shirts. ...
Barbie and the Rockers was your favorite band. ... You thought She-ra (Princess of Power!) and He-Man should hook up. .. You ever owned a pair of Jelly-Shoes. ... You have ever played with a Skip-It. .... You had or attended a birthday party at McDonalds. ... You've gone through this nodding your head in agreement. ...

SNOW! SNOW!
There was no shortage of snow at the cabin...in fact, truly amazing! A blizzard and minus 8 and drive down the mountain and into Peachland...clear as day?! Gotta love the cabin!

This snow inspired my last minute school costume for today...a Snow Angel. Throw on the ol' trusty pair of wings, grab some Christmas garland and a beautiful scarf knit by my Nana and voila... an angel in disguise this whole time... even my kids told me I was 'beautiful' today!

Ginger decided she wanted to be Rudolph for Halloween. I commended her on the thrifty choice, as we can also make full use out of it during the holiday season.
Sooo precious!

I will try to keep posting, although my schedule doesn't allow for much time. This weekend, Sat. night, we are off to the cabin of our own little Halloween Party. You pretty much are automatically a monster the next morning at the cabin with no shower and a hangover....
