A quote from a parent...

I received a beautiful card from a parents of one of my students today. I wanted to share it with all of you. There are just so many days when work gets us all down, and yet all it takes is a few words that offer encouragement and reassuarance that we are making a difference.

"Dear Ms. Getz,

We wanted to express our heartfelt thanks for your exceptional efforts in teaching Rachel this year. Every year holds unique challenges and we believe that her success this year is due to her effort but your guidance and encouragement. We wish you the best and thank you."

(keeping names confidential)

This letter, and beautiful gift that accompanied it, really brightened up my day. After battling a nasty sickness over the last week and being away form the school for a couple of days, it was wonderful to come back to this. I love my career!

Who sent the early birthday present....?

Okay, who sent the awesome strep throat my way the day before my quarter of a century birthday. Unfortunately, I have already received this gift about a month ago, but you forgot to send a gift receipt. Pehaps I could just do an exchange for 33 report cards? Let me know. Thanks for the thought,
Your ex- friend,
Heather

Dancing
Oh goodness. I go the funniest video emailed to me. I just have to share it.

Think back, way back. To all those hip-happening songs of the times. And don't foget the dances that go along with them! Hilarious! If only someone would have told us how silly we looked (Yes I used the word silly- I am a teacher who has to conform to G rated vocabulary-for the most part!)

The video is about 6 minutes long- you MUST watch to the end- it gets funnier as it goes closer to the present time!

(Yes, I am procrastinating- It's report card time! LOL)

R.N. Jenn

This weekend my big sis graduated with her Nursing Degree. After many long and stressful years of school and being away from her two men, she did it! I am so proud of her. She is an amazing sister, mother, daughter, friends.... and will be a fantastic nurse. She already has a job in the maternity ward in Williams Lake! Actually everybody in her grad class (about 50) has jobs already, and mostly in the Okanagan! Hmmm... did we go into the wrong profession you fellow graduates of mine?!!!

The weekend was great to see a lot of friends and family that I haven't seen in a while. Holla out there to Auntie Barb and Uncle Kirby from West Van, Jenn's Nursing Mentor and sidekick!! It was nice to see you and catch up- Ms. Roboto Boot and Mr. Way to Much Time to Do Fun Stuff!

Nana also came down from the Island to partake in the festivities. Too bad Dave couldn't come (her husband) but we all have him in our thoughts and prayers to keep staying strong! Luv you guys!

As usual, Mom was a fantastic host and had us over on Friday night for a little party. Way too much food and drinks, as usual, and we all had a lot of fun! Lots of friends and all the family was able to come out to congratulate Jenn and spoil her with precious cards and words of advice.

Maybe one of the most memorable and uplifting moments of the weekend festiviites was meeting Kurtis's brother Carson (Hi Carson!). He told me it was nice to finally meet me because he had been reading my blog!!!! And to all you bloggers out there you know whats its like when someone you dont even know is reading your blog...you're actually not just writing to entertain yourself!! There are actually people out there reading this chaos!! YAHOOOO!!

RELAY FOR LIFE

This Saturday night was the Relay for life at the Bluff. As you know, I organized a team for my school, the North Glenmore Gators.
The Relay is for the Canadian Cancer Society. We started at 6pm last night and went through the night until 6 am this morning. We walked in twos and alternated every half an hour, so we only had to alk every hour and a half. It was pretty good but at about 2:00 in the morning you start getting very tired. I swear Dale was dillusional.

The was a lot of fun things to keep us entertained. There were many live bands, face painting, Relay Idol (no I did not try out!), we played Bocce, board games, had a BBQ potluck, hot air ballon rides, Starbucks was there with free coffee, there were tons of other things going on.

One of the most touching parts of the night was the slide show and the Luminary event. If you so wished you could purchase a candle in a small white paper bag in memory of someone who has/had cancer. They showed a slide show with pictures submitted and the candles were lit around the outside of the track. It really hit home why we were raising money and awareness for this incredible disease.

It was a very successfull event and our team managed to raise about $17oo dollars! We did a coin drive at our school and all the members (staff and spouses) collected pledges. Kelowna raised a total of $120,000 all togther! YAY!

Keep your eyes and ears posted for recruiting for next year!
